Deploying enterprise MDX enabled apps from App Store via Volume Purchase

Applicable Products

  • XenMobile

Information

The CEM/XenMobile Server is currently optimized for Volume Purchase distribution of Public App Store apps that are not MDX enabled. While it is possible to distribute MDX enabled apps from App Store via volume purchase, some considerations must be taken into account for optimal performance. This article explains the known issues with deploying the MDX enabled apps from App Store via volume purchase.

What is the use case to distribute the MDX Enabled apps via volume purchase?

Allowing install of the enterprise MDX enabled apps without requiring an iTunes account or public app store access for the end-user on the device. This would primarily be used in a corporate-owned or supervised device configuration.

How do I add the MDX enabled apps as Volume Purchase apps?
  • Add the Public MDX enabled Volume Purchase app on Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager.

  • Add the MDX enabled mdx file on Citrix Endpoint Management Console:

    • Configure -> Apps -> Add -> MDX

  • Both the VPP copy and the MDX copy of the app need to be in the delivery group.

  • The above steps will result in the XenMobile app having 2 entries in the apps list on the server and consequently.

  • When the VPP app is installed on the end-user device the presence of the MDX file on the Citrix Endpoint Management console will authorize the app and configure it with the right policies.
